Yes you can. If you have an open license and you are above the age of 21, you shouldn’t have any issues with hiring a car using a UK driver’s license.
If you want to drive a vehicle in Australia using a UK driver’s license, you are allowed to for up to 3 months if you are a temporary overseas visitor. Your UK license has to be valid and you cannot be disqualified from driving anywhere.
If you plan to be in Australia for longer than 3 months and you hold a permanent visa, you will need to get a local license within the first 3 months that you are in the country.
