Quobba
The spectacular Quobba coast, extending from Point Quobba to Red Bluff, is famous for exceptional fishing, walking, snorkelling and rugged scenery. Be astonished by the fascinating sight of water blasting up to 20 metres into the air at Quobba blowholes. The area is also a turtle nesting and hatching site between December to March.
Tourists can stay at Quobba Station, which is a local beachside accommodation. While in the area, spend the day at Quobba’s Shell Beach, which is near the Carnarvon.
Blowholes (North of Carnarvon)
On a bitumen road, the awe-inspiring view of the Blowholes is located just 75 kilometres north of Carnarvon. Mighty ocean swells thrust water through sea caves and out of narrow holes in the rocks. Jets of water burst into the air, sometimes up to a height of 20 metres, creating a breathtaking sight.
Kalbarri
Cradled at the mouth of the Murchison River, Kalbarri boasts an excellent climate where you can enjoy fishing, swimming, and numerous coastal activities all year round.
Add to that the wonderful Wildflower & Humpback Whale season, and you have an excellent destination for your next holiday.
From the rough inland gorges, dramatic coastal cliffs, and sensational beaches to the peaceful Murchison River, Kalbarri is unique and has something to offer everyone.
Shark Bay
On the Indian Ocean coast at the most westerly end of Australia, Shark Bay’s waters, islands, and peninsula shroud a 2.2 million-hectare area. About 77% of this area is marine water. It also boasts several unique natural features, including one of the most extensive and most diverse seagrass beds in the world.
However, it is for its stromatolites (colonies of microbial mats that create hard, dome-shaped deposits) that Shark Bay is most well-known. It is also recognised for its rich marine life, including a large population of dugongs, and serves as a refuge for several other globally endangered species.
Denham
More than 8 hours of driving from Perth, you’ll discover the seaside town of Denham.
Captain Henry Mangles Denham chartered this part of Australia in 1858 aboard the HMS Herald and provided the town with his surname. Once a pearling port, this pleasant coastal town is Shark Bay’s main population centre (roughly 1000 residents) and presents safe swimming beaches, restaurants, a golf course and the Monkey Mia Airport.
The seaside town, gateway to the Shark Bay area, delivers many accommodation choices for couples and families, from resorts and hotels to campsites and tourist parks. Kids will enjoy the shipwreck-themed playground at Denham’s foreshore, with a nearby pontoon to jump off and swim around the bay. Add a flip-flop, jandal or holiday footwear to the “Thong Shack” – ask a local where it’s found on Denham beach.
The 5 km Nicholson Point trail traverses from Denham across shrublands to Little Lagoon and delivers an extensive range of plant species and bird life. Denham’s Discovery Trail will take you past sites of attraction in the town, covering 2.3 kilometres.
